Just to clarify on the type of cable, as it comes in two different sorts - forward breakout and reverse breakout, as these connectors aren't bidirectional.

Forward breakout turns an HBA 8087 into four SATA ports - this is the one you want.
Reverse breakout turns four SATA ports on the motherboard into a single 8087 connector.

I just have to chime in here.
Not all 8087 are the same.
Apparently there are at least 2 types. Where the 8087 connector is different size. They look the same but one is 1/2 inch wide and the other is 3/4 inch. I had to return 3 eBay orders before I found the right one.

Get the part number from SM website and search by it.

The higher-res pic in the manual certainly looks like an SFF-8087 port, although of course it helpfully neglects to mention it by part name :)

Have you got any pics of this? I don't understand how an 8087 connector can be two different sizes, suspect someone's got confused with either an 8088 or an 8643 (I've seen 8643 connectors erroneously labelled as 8087's before).

Sff-8087 is a defined standard.

eBay sellers might be incorrectly labeled OEM proprietery cables as SAS cables.
I've seen HP/Dell/IBM have some custom connectors and SAS cables.

I do not know. But I had ordered what was described as sff8087 breakout cables 3 times. From 3 different sellers and got the same cables all 3 times.
It looks exactly as sff 8087. But the connector is smaller. It fits into the socket but is too narrow.
I only got the right cable by searching using supermicro part number. Since I needed 8 of them it was a choire.
