I got 2 x S3700 200Gb new even with the blister (70$ each)!!

I think it was a really nice deal, warranty until 2020. I was thinking to use them to install the OS. What would you use this drives for? After checking with crystaldiskinfo that they are actually new, I think I should get a few more.

I also have in mind to get 2xS3500 480Gb new (120$), I could use this drive as a datastore. What do you think about this drive? Is it good for that?

Not problem at all ;)

They are base in Mexico, in Mercadolibre kind of the Mexican ebay I found pretty decent SSD:

Unidad Estado Sólido 200gb Intel S3700 Empresarial Nuevo!! - $ 1,590.00 (around 70-80$ depending on the exchange)

Unidad De Estado Solido Ssd Micron M500dc 800gb 0 Horas Uso - $ 2,600.00 (140 USD)

Disco Solido Ssd 960 Gb Samsung Pm 863 0 Horas De Uso - $ 3,200.00 (170USD)

Disco Duro Intel Ssd Dc S3500 Series 480 Gb 2.5 100% Nuevo - $ 2,495.00 (135 USD)

I don't really know if they send internationally but you could try though. I'm thiking in getting the S3500 480Gb. Basically I want a SSD to store the VMs, Do you think that's a good drive or should I go for the PM863?

I would go with the S3700 and S3500.

I would try to do raid10 for VMs, and the S3700 will perform better than the S3500 due to increased write IOPs.

There are still available 5x S3700 200Gb and 5x S3500 480Gb, the only issue is with raid10 I would use 4 SATA and the Xeon-D 1528 only has 6 SATA .

Do you think this would be faster than using a NVMe (either m2 or PCI).

Depends on the drive. P3320 maybe. P3600/ P3700, the newer HGST drives and etc are faster than 4 in RAID 0.
Not sure if I'm misreading what you wrote or you're misreading what I wrote.

I was replying to him about using 4x SATA SSD in RAID10, and stating that 4 would not cut it to be higher performing than 1 P3600 / P3700 NVME. Specifically referring to the S3500 / S3700 he mentioned.

Assuming you are talking about the HGST 12Gb/s drives... 4x of those in RAID0 would be awesome :) I'm still waiting to score some more at <$150 for 200GB and <$400 for larger.

We just ordered some of the new HGST 12gb 800GB drives at a client. Can't wait to try them out.
