I’m going to replace my old Truenas server with a rackserver I have found this server for sale.

Supermicro SC825 E3-1270 v5 16GB 8x3TB 1xNvme M.2 2xPSU Rails

Chassi: SC825
Motherboard: Supermicro X11SSH-F
Bakplan: BPN-SAS3-825TQ
CPU: Intel Xeon E3-1270 V5 3.60ghz 4 core 8 Threads
RAM: 16gb (2x8gb) DDR4 2400Mhz
Disk: 8x3TB SATA (8x3.5" + 1xM.2 Nvme on the motherboard)
Nic: 2st GbE RJ45
PSU: 2x PWS-741P-1R 740w
Rails – Included

My question is if I can replace the bakplan, which is a TQ model, with a BPN-SAS3-826EL1 or it’s not compatible with a SC825 case? As it’s manufactured for the SC826 case with 12 bays.

Best regards Patrik

Mounting holes for the 826 backplane won't line up in a 825 chassis. It's not going to work unfortunately.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer, been searching alot about this but have not found anything.

Guess I have to continue looking for a SC826 chassi, unfortunately Supermicro are not common chassis on the used market in my country.

Best regards Patrik

If you have limited hardware selection, I would recommend using larger drives in place of 3TB ones. Also note that the 825 chassis will hold 10 x 3.5" drives, just 2 won't be hot-swap.

This server will have 2x Netapp DS4246 chassi connected so i'm only searching for the server. It's only used Supermicro parts which are hard to find in my country. spareparts etc I can buy on ebay, but buying a used chassi on ebay I have to pay around $300 for shipment plus import tax.

TQ modell have invidual connections per drive, I want SFF-8643 connection on the bakplan.

I now see I wrote SAS2 in the headline, I will change it as it's a SAS3 bakplan I want to replace it with.

Guess I don't see the advantage minus slightly neater cabling? TQ backplanes have no SAS expander, so you will still get SAS3 speeds.
