I need a L2/L3 switch. Used or not used is okay. I will be using it for my homelab.

I'm currently looking at Microtik switches right now. It is cheap and it has L3 capability. I VLANs is important for me.

Any other recommendations?

24/48 ports? 1 GBE or 10 GBE? Smart or fully managed? Quiet for in your office or normal rackmount loud? We really don't know how your using it...

at least 16 ports. 1 GBE. It is okay if it is loud. Doesn't need to be rack mounted. Either smart or fully managed is fine.

Currently looking at that model, CRS109-8G-1S-2HnD-IN, Cisco SG Series, Dlink DGS Series and older power connects.
So are you thinking something like using the CRS for inter-VLAN routing then just using inexpensive Mikrotiks for switches?

It will be used as a switch and AP only. The router is going to be a pfsense or sophos UTM.

I'm kinda noob in networking. Basically, what I want is the ability to segregate my home network and my lab network.

You should keep in mind that the routing functionality in the Mikrotik switches are not more performant than most commodity routers. So the layer 3 functionality is mostly just a gimmick for marketing purposes.

With that said I do think that Mikrotik makes nice devices, including their switches which see frequent software updates. As far as I know all of the CRS devices are fanless, if that is a parameter, you should keep it in mind.

Also, as you don't need layer 3 functionality, it shouldn't make much of a difference what its routing performance is.

I had some bad experience in using Mikrotik switches. I would not recommend them. Probably you should look at a used Cisco switch, it will definitely fit your needs.
