The top panel is mesh and there's no room for fans. For the Node 804, you can't put fans above the drive cages, right? I was looking at the manual and it seems that you have to remove the cages if you want to put in fans on those spots.
I don't think you would want to. The Node 304/804 are designed for front to back linear air flow. The drives and drive cages are optimized for that flow. In fact the drive cages are closed on top, kind of making it not worthwhile to even try to put fans above the drive cages. For the Node 804, you can't put fans above the drive cages, right? What enterprise SSDs are you using? Still on the fence between U.2 and SATA and I think the price of the drives is going to be the main factor here, and it's not looking good for the SATA SSDs.I just did a build that was aiming to imitate the 45 home labs HL8, but without the hotswap back plane. I used the following and have been pretty happy with it
Gigabyte B550i Aorus Pro AX ITX board
Ryzen 5 pro 5650GE
64 gb of Nemix ECC RAM
Corsair RM650 PSU
M.2 NVMe to SATA 3.0 Adapter Card (ASM1166)
6 enterprise SSDs and 2 Ironwolf spinners
Noctua NH-L12Sx77 CPU cooler
10Gtek 10Gb PCI-E NIC Network Card, Dual SFP+ Port
Node 304 case
I am running Proxmox bare metal and have virtualized TrueNAS Scale with the M.2 to SATA card passed through to TrueNAS
Alright, that's already on my list of drives to look out for. Thanks!Samsung SM863a
