I may have the option to buy very lightly used Dell-branded Samsung 1.6TB NVMe (P/N MZWKI1T6HMHP - 000D3). These are pulls from R730's that I've worked with so I know these drives are barely used. These drives appear to be a Samsung SM1715 with the following stats:
  • PCIe Gen 3 - NVMe
  • 2.5"
  • SFF-8639
  • 10 DWPD
  • 1600GB
Does anyone here use this type of drive and if given the right price would you consider using this drive? What is a reasonable/decent price to pay for one of these drives? I've seen some listed on eBay for around $1000 so far but haven't done extensive searching yet.

@handruin - I use quite a few of the 800GB models, both the 1715 and 1725's. The 800GB Dell models, if you watch on ebay you can sometimes get for $250-350. At $1000 not bad for the 1.6TB. There is a premium for larger drives since many servers only have so many drive bays.

The Intel DC P3600 1.6TB often can be had in the $700-800 range. The Samsung's have higher endurance but the Intel P3600 has a vibrant replacement ecosystem since they were much higher volume drives.
