Just wanna double check my facts. Each CPU has it's own memory bank. If you remove one CPU the other will not use the memory from the other. Is this correct?

Thanks

Yea, that's what I thought. I'm wanting to remove a CPU from a system but don't want to cut the memory in half. O well. :(

I've spent the afternoon trying to cool down #1 CPU in this 1U short depth SM chassis. Absolutely nothing I did had any affect, no even removing #2 CPU and it's memory. I added 2 more 40mm fans in the front for a total of 6. I even added a fan at the rear between the MS and PS cage (it fit perfectly and required no additional support). Temps on #1 run in the high 80s to low 90s which is too hot to suit me. I'm using HWMonitor and SD 5. SD5 fluctuates between Medium and High. The fan speed up then slow down and I can see that they do so in response to rising temps shown by HWMonitor. At this point I'm thinking that this chassis is just too small to be cooled properly. Might have to move the guts into another box.

Which CPUs? You are spot on on the fact that E5's are hard to cool in short depth chassis.

I've had E 5645's and L 5630's in it, no difference. Strangely enough, my E5 2670 workstation is the coolest running rig I have and it's also the quietest. But then it's not in a 1U chassis either.

I bough a few SNK-P0041 as my rear CPU was to hot. I havent concluded yet, but it would seem plausable that this would help air move instead of getting trapped.

Considering using only one x5650 and 24GB ram in atleast two of mine. The difference in speed between 2x L5630 and 1x x5650 isn't bad. Less memory is though, and I don't know if 16gb dimms work. I have also ditched the m1015 for now due to heat.
