I got that "Qotom Barebone System Mini PC Q20331G9 1U Rack 4X 10G SFP+ 5X i226V B3 2.5G LAN Atom C3758R 8 Core Processor 2.4 GHz" router thing. But I noticed one night when I came home it was powered off. So I powered it back on, then just again this morning and the interent stopped, and I couldn't login to the router.

I went downstairs to it, and it was supid hot. And when I powered it on I heard the fan was making this horrible noise and would start and stop.

Its kinda spinning but still making the noise. Before I saw the unit idling at like 85C. Right now I had to turn on as much energy saving mode on it so its running at 800mhz right now to keep it from overheating while idle..

But mostly, what kind of fan does this thing use? I'm hoping its something when I opened it, it looked kinda like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LNW2T2T/
But I don't know if that works. If anyone knows that be so amazing so I can order it ASAP.

Just contact Qotom and tell them that the fan has failed. From my experience with them, they will aim for the quickest fix, i.e. they will send you a replacement fan. Never had any of that "send the whole unit back" BS you usually get if you have to deal with 'big' manufacturers or typical EU/US custumer support...

Ok I sent them an e-mail about it. I'm surprised none of the teardown videos I could find about this. Did they take the motherboard out and show the model number of the fan on it.

Right now its kind of limping along, running at 800mhz, with the fan doing the start/stop grinding I showed in the video.
But I guess if it overheats again I might just tear it apart myself.

I've got the same unit and the fan is starting to get LOUD.

Did Qotom send a replacement? Any ideas for a more reliable aftermarket solution?

Yeah, they sent me a replacement fan, but I still haven't received it. It's been about a week since they sent it. I think it's coming all the way from China, because the tracking number they gave me still shows Los Angeles, California, waiting to receive package from Partner Facilities.

Does this fan have the same header as the one listed on Amazon in your original post? I'm not having any fan issues, other than it seems to run pretty loud all the time with core temps sitting around 42-45C. What is your experience with fan speeds?

It's not a huge issue, but I am wondering what mods might be an option for this thing. I'm always looking for a modding project! lol.

No, the one I linked in the first post was just one I randomly found that I thought looked like it. I had no idea what kind of fan it even used until I received the replacement one and was able to take those pictures that I took.

But probably if we search for model
Code:
BF07505H05FP
, I would think those would be replaceable substitutes.

Thanks for the info. I still think I might look into a better cooling solution. Not having any temp problems, but would like to quiet it down if possible. I just bought 4 Noctua 80mm fans for my 2U DIY NAS chassis for the same reason.

I am having this same fan problem. I have reached out to Qotom and am awaiting an answer. I was hoping I could just find a noctua replacement fan for it but no such luck. That said, My rack is pretty sparsely populated so I could just bolt a noctua to the underside, 3d print a plastic air director for the inside and leave it at that.

I just wanted to say that I too had a fan issue. It got really loud - I though it was chewing a wire up. I disassembled it (which was frustrating as I took the mounting posts off by accident before finding that the front of the case also had to be removed) and found nothing in the fan. I pushed the wires around to make sure they were clear and the sound stopped. Before this, I noticed the board would be cool the warmer with the fan ramping up/down. I think something may have been stuck and was ejected during my disassembly of the board. I would _really_ like to have a backup fan on hand. If anyone finds a replacement that I can buy or swap out.. I was even thinking maybe 40x40 mm to exhaust out might be a good way to produce negative pressure.

The biggest issue with this fan is the wire / connector. The connector looks pretty standard for a 4 pin connector but the wire is rather longer than what you would normally get on a replacement unit and it needs to be as it goes along the bottom of the board, around then end to the fan header.

I'm not against soldering the wires onto another fan if the mounting bracket and fan work, it it unfortunate that there isn't a large enough heat sync to avoid such complications. I'd be happier with a case fan solution for a more generic replacement
