Qnap TS-EC1279U-RP with not Qnap Expension possible?

Hi there,

I know its kinda silly question... but I was thinking about trying to expand my Qnap TS-EC1279U-RP. Since it only has 12 drive bays which are all occupied already...

So they offer these REXP 12xx and REXP 16xx which are insanely expensive (as far as I could tell) if they are just JBOD enclosures... which are connected thru SAS6GB or 12GB to the main unit... as far as I saw / know.

So I thought why not just take a Supermicro JBOD chassie? Should do the same? Or is my mind playing tricks on me :)))

Any one who tried that / knows that? Or think he knows it :)
