Here's a small detail that is probably worth mentioning. QuTS Hero (ZFS supporting) supports QVR Elite which, as the article says, comes with "free" licenses for only two cameras. Additional licenses (also mentioned) are subscription based. However, regular QTS OS (non-ZFS) comes with QVR Pro software with eight free camera licenses. Additional camera licenses are not subscriptions but one time $69 charge per additional camera (channel). Performance-wise, ZFS works better with file systems with thousands of small files compared to other software arrays (LVM) but doesn't quite do write caching (ZIL/SLOG is not cache), and most of my files are not super precious to worry about bitrot.

Another detail worth keeping in mind, especially if you are considering getting Qnap or Synology NAS for your business - Is that neither of these offers 24/7 support.
