Have to be careful with the 90's as they are higher wattage and there are a chunk of boards that won't boot with them.

Wow, that's a good deal for them? I could swear that I saw them last year for $100 or less.

I ran dual 5550 of r years that were not matched - one Retail, the other ES i think B0 stepping if memory serves. Ran flawlessly. I currently Run dual 5680s on the same board - don't remember if they're matched or not.

How critical is buying a 'matched pair' (what does this mean exactly?) if plan to run on a dual CPU motherboard?
Same cpu model & stepping I think. I would always go for a matched pair so that you know that both cpus have the same features and bugs (eg e5 2670 SR0KX & SR0H8)

Yeah, this is a good price for them. They are the fastest processors you can put in older mac pro's. And, mac pro users typically want the fastest they can get and are used to the "mac" price premium. The rest of us run 5670's or 5675's for speed outta that socket.
