Hey folks!

I am weighing some options. :p .

I own a Asus Z11PA-U12/10G-2S motherboard.
Currently running a bunch of spinning disks which I might want to replace with SSD's.

I also have 2x U.2 SSD's which I am about to connect to the OCUlink connectors.

The motherboard has 3 x miniSAS SATA 6Gb/s ports with breakout cables for connecting SATA disks.

Can I simply connect 3 SFF-8643 to SFF-8482 cables and hook up 3 more U.2 SSD's?

Also, I have to wonder, when you see this link (to amazon):

Does that allow 4 U.2 SSD's to a single miniSAS?

The manual isn't very clear to me. The M.2 slot is 16Gbps, which is 4x PCI-e 3.0 lanes right ...

The SAS port is described to take 4x 6Gbps SATA disks, that would be 24Gbps, so that would be 6x PCI-e 3.0 lanes for each SAS port?

I mean, in theory a PCI-e 3.0 lane can handle 985MB/s, 4x equals 3940MB/s and 6x 5910MB/s. I suppose it could handle 2 on each port?

Any ideas?
Thanks!

no, this are SATA3 only from C622 chipset
U.2 is PCIe lanes with NVMe protocol.

Right I made the assumption it was actually a SAS controller but its just the physical connectors.

Well there goes that idea then :).

Thanks!

just get a pci-e nvme card, you can up to 4x u.2 drives then on a pci-e card breakout from a x16 slot
