What is the storage specialist mean here? Is there a store or something like that?
Basically it goes like this:
- there are a few IT-companies specialized in storage sales and storage implementation
- most often those are also Supermicro partners
- some are specialized in mid-sized companies or Enterprise
- those companies are generally not visible to "normal customers"
- for their business they usually have large amounts of hard drives - of course to fill the storage racks - I know some large specialists having 20,000+ HDDs in store: if you sell a SuMi JBOD 19" rack with 44 HDDs or the Chenpro one with 96 HDDs, by then its obvious those HDDs are just ok to fill 200-400 racks. Since you need to also stock up on broken hdds its actually less, more like 120-300 racks. Sell 20 - 100 racks a month and then you know, why they have so many HDDs in stock.
- if you got a business, just find those and order - some are still at old or close to old prices since their customers expect them to
- due to Chia and due to more people finding out, those companies limit sales of those drives on their website, so they can get rid of end-users or small deals looking for cheap drives - just to make sure they have those HDDs for their target customers in stock
- now all you gotta do is appear as a normal customer of their target group, have a business and order and be surprised
Enough of the instructions - think about the rest on your own
PS: I plain found out about it, while I am actually one of the normal customers
Just thought I share my findings for those "in need".
