From what I can find, the R version replaced the non R. Also, The card can be direct shipped from supermicro for < 90 bucks here...

It's laughable that one cannot readily find cables though...

Just sent Amphenol and email inquiry about availability.
Talked to their sales guy about buying just a few about 6-8 months ago. He told me for 1 or 2 it was too small of an amount for him to fulfill. But this was a while ago. Wonder if mouser might sell them

Chuntzu - So if we checkout on their site for that item they won't full-fill it is what you're saying?

I have had that in my cart now waiting... darn!

Performance wise, this is a pretty interesting setup. Seems like some drives are doing well and some are struggling a bit. Hope I can figure out the cause tomorrow.

Oh, and I found out that installing an Intel NVMe drive on a system after removing a Micron drive leads to the Intel drive not being recognized. Scary when you go through a P3700 800GB, a P3700 400GB, a P3600 400GB and a fresh from the ESD bag 750 and they all do not work!

Very fun but more research required.

Chuntzu, want to come to Redmond?...

Chris
Sure would! I was drooling while watching the ignite video's on channel 9 when they made mention of the 4 or 5 node cluster each with 4 nvme drive 20 or so 4tb drives.

PS check you PMs

Yes, I live in Redmond. 3 miles from main campus of Microsoft.

I am a MS geek. but you all have probably figured that out my now.

I have to edit (read: not say) a lot of things that I say on this forum because I am privy to MS and other 3rd party technology that is not out yet. Patrick, I know that you understand this feeling of not being able to say everything.

Amphenol does not sell directly to end users, and most of their vendors only deal in bulk likewise.

OK guys - breaking update - I think most folks will want the $249 version. More coming soon.

Updated the first post. The more expensive version uses a PLX chip which helps with bifurcation down to x4. Some platforms (many of the ones tested) have this already. The other thing is that with only 1 cable could only connect 1 drive so did not see the issue with the bifurcation on the lower cost card (R).

Hopefully will have some more info to share later today.

Finally my plan to run roughly 4x of these cards with 8NVMe drives will come into play with VSAN. I want to use these with my AFA (32x 1TB SSD array)

Now I just need more PCIe lanes!!!
