Hi all
I'm planning to replace my very old Synology CS407, with a new machine to fits my 9u rack (600mm)
My goal is to use xpenology and plex, in the future move my DVB-s2 and DVB-T2 cards to stream tv over the lan
I have a very short budget limit, so...
Build’s Name: Superfat
Operating System/ Storage Platform: Xpenology (ESXi???)
CPU: Core i3-6100T boxed- 130€
Motherboard: Asus P10S-E/4L (or suggest) - 300€
Chassis: ED308H40 (3u) or something with almost 8xhotswap (max deep 400mm-450mm) + Rails - 100€http://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...60317996476.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.wwqOLL
Drives: Now /2x2Tb WD Green (WD20EARS) + 2x3 WD green (WD30EZRX) /RAID6 +1 Intenso 4TB 6513123 (Backup)|| Future 8x3Tb WD Red
RAM: DDR4 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury 2133 CL14 [HX421C14FBK2/16] - 70€
Add-in Cards: Future (now running on my living room htpc) DVB-S2 TBS6908 + DVB-T2 TBS6285
Power Supply: Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 550W [BN250] - 135€
Other Bits: due the m.2 slot..a valid ssd solution for the sys boot!

Any "you are foolish" and this is "sh..." is welcome!

My 02 is that's a VERY expensive build for Synology and Plex only.

The CPU / ram / mobo put you at 500€ already, that's expensive excluding psu, case, drives, etc... for something that's only 2 cores.

Do you have any used options ? You can likely buy a comparable mobo/ram/cpu for 50% of that where you are at, I would hope.

Are you going to run Xpenolog on baremetal or run something like ESXI for VMs?

Any help is really appreciated!
The Asus is the only 1151 mb with 8x sata, m.2 and 4 gb lan with a decent price I've found
The CPU I've chosen is for a future more core upgrade
My needs fits only in xpenology, with a decent speed for data encryption, some little nvr, plex and a regular support for the tbs cards (Tvaheand...Mediaportal TV service...)
Really thanks in advance

I think that Esxi would be necessary if Xpenology cannot hand my TV cards and the channel list so I've to use a more simple Sat->IP Os
