Nice - I saw that in the newegg preview flyer yesterday and saw them @ Microcenter for the same $799.99 while in-store yesterday, I am guessing a lot of sites will be offering them at the 799 point.

Groupon and Livingsocial both have 10% off Newegg gift cards, but they are slow to send them out. I'll try and use them to get 10% off this great price. Now I need to find a new mobo and some DDR4 for it. Oh, and a Vega.

Main downside with using GCs instead of credit cards is that you'll lose on the extra year of warranty and possibly price protection...

Need to be $700 or less to be better value than dual 2696 v2... thats if you dont even take into acc the exorbitant ddr4 vs ddr3 cost

I'm actually going to jump on the 1800x - half the chip but less than half the price, plus if you take into account the mobo, loads cheaper. I would love to have the 1950x but I can't justify it now.

ddr4 is such a rip off right now compared to ddr3. that by itself means e5 v2 is still very good bargains...

LOL. I saw the new "RGB RAM" at Newegg and actually googled it because I was wondering if it was some new performance improvement!

Now we are talking... at this price point, that's more reasonable.

Bought my dual 2696 v2 when the supply was still around for $580. so given that 1950x is newer with much faster single core number and more pcie lanes, that could somewhat make up for the still somewhat higher price and the higher ddr4 price.

intel should have an answer soon.

if this keeps going, the 2nd hand xeon market will have to start taking their price down as well.

Are you sure? I think I read somewhere that an AMD rep said that tr has no limit implemented and that memory is only limited by available ram sizes.

AMD Threadripper supports up to 256GB of RAM (9:42) • r/Amd
will take that comment back. look like it supports up to 2tb if you have big enough ram densities:

although i don't think we will see too many MB with a lot of slots so you might have to use higher more expensive and slower ram stick if you want higher ram capacity. The ECC support still not as good as xeon i think....

also lack of ipmi
