Hello, a question before final picking of components or used system purchase.
Main driver is number of slots required and if or how much x8 slots degrade video performance compared to x16 slots. The below article seems to show that there is basically no difference.
Has anyone from the forums had a chance to observe / test / experience on this.
Impact of PCI-E Speed on Gaming Performance

Have X9SRL in the toy chest, which has
Two (2) PCI-Express 3.0 x8 (in x16 Slot)
Two (2) PCI-Express 3.0 x8 (in x8 Slot)
Two (2) PCI-Express 3.0 x4 (in x8 Slot)
One (1) PCI-Express 2.0 x4 (in x8 Slot)

The other SM card which almost fits is X10SRA-F which has audio onboard plus
1 x 16 PCIe3
3 x 8 PCIe3

2 x 1 PCIe2
and cant use all the lanes fully as some are wasted with x8 slots.

if dont use or purchase similar 2011-3 SM board, or used HP Z820 or Dell T7xxx) ( although dont wish to get caught with DELL / HP compatibility issues by using no DELL / HP branded NICS / HBA etc.

Impact of PCI-E Speed on Gaming Performance

Welcome any comments/ suggestions, items in italics are already in the toy chest. THANKS P
