Maybe someone can help explaine me next thing:
If i have X3950 x6 with E7-8800 v2 CPU and DDR3 RAM compute books, can i upgrade E7-8800v2 CPUs to E7-8800v3 CPUs without upgrading compute books?
In docs they say next

Supported upgrades are:

  • E7 v2 processors to E7 v4 processors (new DDR4 DIMMs required)
  • E7 v3 processors with DDR3 to E7 v4 processors (new DDR4 DIMMs required)
  • E7 v3 processors with DDR4 to E7 v4 processors (optionally keep existing memory)

But nothing about v2 to v3 upgrade

That would be installing Haswell CPUs in a motherboard previously running Ivy Bridge. I doubt it, but it'd depend on the design of the specific motherboard if it's even possible at all. I think there were major changes with power delivery between those architectures.

On this presentation, slide #4: Lenovo x3850 X6 & x3950 X6 Refresh (Haswell) - ppt download
Says "Ability to upgrade to haswell compute book":

This suggests a "Haswell compute book" is a thing. But then later in the presentation it says this:

The MT6241 appears to be the "book", potentially different motherboards can be used in it. So it isn't so clear.

I also found this eBay listing for a MT6241 book, and in the metadata it says it supports E7 v3 & v4 CPUs: 00D0402 – Lenovo System x3850 X6 MT 6241 Compute Book with DDR4 support | eBay

I can't find anything more definitive. Hopefully this gives you a lead to follow.
