Need advice for LSI's U.2 Enabler ( 05-50061-00 )

I'm trying to use '05-50061-00' enabler with DELL Precision 7920 Tower workstation's backplane which supports PCIe SSDs.
Since the cable is quite pricey, not purchased yet.
Do you guys think is it gonna work fine with?

I think LSI's Tri-Mode supported controllers and its U.2 enablers are picky.
I don't have guts to throw my $100 into the sewer recklessly.

Is there anyone tried using this cable with non-Supermicro devices?
