Hi,

does anyone run mixed generations IB environments or knows whether it would run?

Lets assume I have
2 Connect-x3 FDR
2 Connect-x2 QDR
Un-managed switch (FDR)

Now if I run open SM on a node connected to a ConnectX2, will the hosts being equipped with the x3 card be able to use FDR between them? I.e. is the link speed of the host running Open SM relevant for any of the configuration items in the IB config?

If it is hw agnostic I could get a cheap x2 card for the open sm host instead of a x3 card:)

I think the switch and the nodes would work like this, no matter where opensm is running:
connectx 2 <-> connectx 3: qdr
connectx 2 <-> connectx 2: qdr
connectx 3 <-> connectx 3: fdr

I would think so too, but thought there might be some generation specific settings that open SM might not know how to handle if an older card was present...
