Anyone know of a wee beastie like this:

Mini PCIE Expansion Card 4 SATA 3.0 6Gb/s RAID MSI NCQ AHCI 1.0 88SE9215 Expansion Card for Host Controller - AliExpress

That does HW RAID? this card doesn't, the 88SE9215 chip has no HW RAID the Marvell Tray utility it comes bundled with doesn't see the device at all, 9220 and 9230 do, however, not certain if they exist in this form factor.

This one from Linkreal also purports RAID but it doesn't work with the 4 port Realtek NIC I have installed in this m910x:

The chip family supports HW RAID, the specific chip on both those devices is the same and does not.

Pick the features you want from that doc and search for a card w/ the appropriate chip model. Maybe you get lucky.

Not vouching for the reseller, but this is the only model I've found:

Hmm so close, it might just be that the 9220 and up are using 2 lanes and the A+E key might be limited to just 1x so nothing beyond a 9215 would work I am starting to think.

Storage Spaces for the win I guess lol

I'm not sure i follow, the wifi card is removed and the A+E key is being used with an adapter to a mini-pcie adapter. there is no room in this unit at all for another full sized pcie card and there is only one pcie slot in the machine.

Yeah, it would have to be a cable out of the machine and the actual HBA outside.

I think i'd need the 9230 anyway to support 4 ports but I think the 9220 does support RAID according to this matrix from Marvell, only 2 ports though.
