I would log into one of the machines (eg via ssh) and start the copy/move process via a supported protocol (smb, ftp, etc.)

HybridBackupSync3 application on your new unit. Will allow you to mount external (old unit) shares and do whatever you wish.

Late to the party, but ime robocopy is the fastest way to do it, and if you have enough IOPs in the storage the /mt:256 switch. And another way to speed up the transfers is to use all the network adapters on the same network so SMB3 multi-pathing will automatically kick in.

Remember, there is no way to make the copy faster than the raw bandwidth available between the two units as well as the raw transfer speeds of the source and destination volumes--it's just not possible.

You have two options

1. NAS1 -> NAS2 (faster)
-enable rsync on one NAS in daemon mode, then copy/sync via rsync

or enable smb or nfs share one one NAS, connect share from the other and copy/sync files

2. NAS1 -> Desktop/Laptop -> NAS2 (slower but simpler)
use robocopy (Windows) or rsync (Linux/Unix)

ime, for the initial bulk copy, rsync isn't any faster than just robocopy. I've also discovered that robocopy is even faster than a drive copying to another drive in the same nas using the nas web ui--doesn't make sense, but it seems nas devices heavily prioritize network transfers than even local ones. In every experience copying locally, it was just as fast as copying over the network. So it's a lot easier to simply robocopy ime.
