I bought one of the new Nvidia SSD's. It has an awfully nice heat sink but it makes it kinda thick. Is there any way to use it without removing the heatsink.
PCIe to M.2 adapter card? The thickness shouldn't be on the bottom or a standard M.2 slot wouldn't fit unless the NVIDIA DGX have custom M.2 connectors.

edit: M.2 extension cable? https://www.amazon.com/Sintech-M-Key-Extention-Cable-20CMS/dp/B07DZCCGJN?th=1

Thinking about getting a few myself but the price is a too high for questionable warranty support. Also the bar is now $25/TB from the 3.2TB for $80 U.2 NVMe thread :D

It is pretty thick both top and bottom. I have a couple of PCIe adapters and it's not even close

I know there's more messages in this thread after I posted these 2 pics but they're now showing on my end even tho I'm getting email notifications.

The 2 halves are held together by 6 screws. I assume that removing these screws will free the drive. I did find an adapter on Amazon that looks like it might work.

Kinda pricey for what it is tho

Ah yea looks like the DGX has the double height M.2 connector (ex. if there's a Wi-Fi M.2 beneath it).

Makes sense if your DGX is constantly R/W data for GPUs to crunch for AI workloads.

It is a shame to lose the great heatsink. Those pads looks kinda thick tho.

Personally, if I'm using these I'd remove the stock heatsink and use the motherboard one.. or get these which I use :

I'd send you one but I only have 2280 right now.

Vantec makes some decently good stuff though, so you won't run into gremlins that will rob your time. :)

Yeah I deleted my reply after I realised removing the heat sink ain't the point.

Plus those drives look like they are double sided so probably not a good idea to leave the other side uncooled.

Good call, so used to consumer NVMe forgot the enterprise ones are double-sided. Front and back of the PM963 3.84TB version

Gotta appreciate the design on the heatsink meant to cool the ssd inside this chonker

If you're feeling adventurous, look into sanding the inside faces (contacting the SSD) and use thinner thermal pads. If theres more airflow, more than a cramped #U server with nearby hot components), it should be fine with less thermal mass to sink heat from the ssd.

Its much easier to go with the card and they will look awesome!

the jonsbo brand 2280 heatsink has an "oem" one on amazon.com for $7.99+tax: SMSJSIY m.2 heatsink
I have 2 sets in use. each set has 2 pairs of thermal pads, 1 thick, 1 thin.

AliExpress used to have free shipping on the heatsinks so they were 2-4$ each shipped, took 2 weeks.

Nice, get from Amazon for next day delivery if its the same price :)

Are those Chinese SSDs allowed to sell in US? If not, we won't see any price adjustment anytime soon.
Imagine a quarter of the global market stopped buying non-Chinese branded SSDs. Samsung already started to cut productions but the price drop will last for a good while.

It's good to hear no incidents from these NAND manufacturing plants for a long time now. (Hi Samsung, Micron...)

A Shortage in NAND Flash Memory Could Raise SSD Prices (premiumbeat.com)
According to a report by Digitimes — who spoke to several sources about the matter — the price of NAND flash chips could increase by as much as forty percent.
