I recently got an SX6036. It has a very outdated version of MLNX-OS that needs to be updated (I cannot find a download). Where can a source a new MLNX-OS image? If I cannot get an MLNX-OS image, is there an alternative like SONiC that offers the same performance and features as MLNX-OS? Would the alternative have gateway functionality? If I can get MLNX-OS updated, is gateway licensing now free like 56gbps?

There are multiple threads in this forum about the most recent version (it's availabe on nvidias site under oem/partners and lenovo).

Welcome to #mellanoxUltras... to prove you are worthy, invest 3 hours to read the "beware..."-mega-thread from Page 1 until the end. For 56 Gbps you will need FDR cables from the compatibility list. If you get another one (who doesn't?) you can run active-active MLAG failover within a base ~60 watts envelope. Because Mellanox was 10 years ahead of the pack back then.

Hi guys sorry just landed on this thread... i have bought a 2nd hand used Mellanox SX6036.. this seems to be original Mellanox switch unbranded..just the mellanox logo on the left side.. so this is running and old firmware unlicensed.. SX_PPC_460EX SX_3.3.3000 2013-02-26 21:57:35 PPC i tried upgrading it with the mellanox old archived firmware first image-PPC_M460EX-3.4.2008 so i could jump into another intermediate firmware untill i upgrade to to latest one available.. i am using the WEB gui to connect to the switch and this is the current MLNX_OS version installed
after a good 15minutes trying to upgrade the nearly 300Mbps OS via install from local file: we can see some upgrades as below
and after another 10mins or so it throws an error as shown on the picture below
Now i am kind of lost.. i tried 3 different firmware images from the archive mellanox nvidia site.. and they all show the same error.. Perhaps i am using the wrong MLNX_os version? or nee to find some older image?
PS- This is my show inventory information? perhaps someone can help me, to indentify which chipset version and which brand MLNX_OS i need?

Hiya thanks indeed, because i had such and old MLNX_OS version i had to go literally step by step, version by version until i have reached the last 3.6.8012 now installed
Now i have another issue cannot find the configs to change infiniband mode to Ethernet mode on the switch? do i need a license for that? because both my Mellanox MCX354ECAT nics from my home servers have latest firmware mode and are set on boot to Ethernet Mode only.
Hiya yes indee, i installed the license already, and no i can see the ethernet management i switched via ssh to profile ethernet.. and rebooted the switch.. but no lights come up on the ports i attached some pics on another post regarding the new issue.
I had installed about hundred of these switches without problem.
Maybe you too hurry: switch has some notes:
1.it`s slow (especially in compare with sn2700). to up IB connection need 3 minutes, for ethernet less (if I remember).
2.there is no light if connection is not up.
3.if you use breakcout - check which port can do it (and which will powered down)
4.original mellanox DAC QSFP cables for $5-$15 has no problems. and breakout cables from Avago and Dell/IBM also.
but for example 100gb transceiver may not work in compatibility mode.

Yes indeed it takes around 10 seconds for lights to start blinking in Ethernet mode, só far only this ports worked with the 40GB dac on port 1,3 and with 40gb 10km gbicson ports 33,35 will test the other ports just in case, and will look into the cables compatible.
understood.. will try to search online for those.... maybe ebay? by the way FRD14 is it just infiniband mode? or i can run it in ethernet mode?
as the devices i am using are Mikrotik RouteroS x86_64 in ethernet mode directly connected to the switch.
