Hey folks,

In short I've imported an Mellanox Voltaire 4036 infiniband switch from the USA to the UK and although I've had no electrical issues as you'd expect because it runs such a varied voltage spectrum I have however had some troubles with basic logging in, namely accessing accounts such as Admin/Root(I assumed root at the time of first accessing) and general niggles overall with working with this infiniband switch.

I'm hoping with a few lines of code and a screenshot or two to hopefully put paid to the hours of sourcing through manuals or general worries that you've invested in the wrong infiniband switch, nothing more, so I hope this helps others now and in the future.

It's a nice infiniband switch the Mellanox Voltaire 4036, 36 ports, QDR and QSFP+ ports all the way along while the price is even more amazing and I've seen some in america go for as little as $30-40 bucks while this one after import tax, delivery and such cost me around £80.. I'm still very happy indeed with my purchase although it does not have a fancy web based GUI where you can click & play about or watch images of lights or something it's definitely not to be ignored or an off putting purchase just because it's using a COM, SERIAL port communications medium of which this can be changed later on if it's not already setup in such a manner to begin with but that again defects the point of this post!

I recieved the delivery only a few days ago, the switch is in lovely condition too, could not wait to hook-it-up even knowing I had no IB cards laying around because they too are still in the post awaiting delivery! -This gives me time to login, use the CLI, flick through the manual as you'd expect with what actually is quite a complex switch.

Anyway I'll come to the point because I have indeed managed to completely reset this device to it's factory defaults as the "reset" button for any period of time being pressed was not doing the job at all..

*First, hook-up the coms port and configure to use 38400 bps, Data Bits:8, Stop Bits:1, Parity:none, FlowControl: XON/XOFF (I used Putty as within the first screenshot attached)
*Then hook-up whichever computer to the voltaire.
*Start the terminal, it will give you just a blank screen, waiting..
*Power-on the voltaire.
*The voltaire will print on the screen: "Hit any key to stop autoboot:" (WHACK SPACEBAR!!!!)*It will then print to you: "Booting secondary, Press ^C to abort"
*Let it all just boot and wait for a moment..Now this is where, below, it will allow you if typed in as stated to completely reset to factory defaults so that the admin, guest accounts all work and you can then get to using the voltaire.

-At the prompt, once it's finished fussing about and loading type in these commands

imm 53 90.1 <press ENTER button>
01 <press ENTER button>
<CTRL+C>
boot <press ENTER button>

*That's it! it should waffle and moan more then me and then once complete, it's reset back to total factory defaults, enjoy using or exploring the Mellanox Voltaire 4036! I hope I've posted something of use and to the correct place, if not, delete it or move it.. Just let me know somehow :D

Managed to find the time today to update using the packages I've hosted and from another location in order to do said updates.
Couple of images displaying what I started with, updated to and then further updated again to the last 3.9.1-985.

I'd just like to say this Voltaire is totally new to me in the spectrum of IB switches, my first actually but here is a complete terminal output of what occurred today with mine including syntax & parameter errors on my part while also the kids are running about in the kitchen or demanding my sweets I've tried to hide.

What this does confirm to me is that what I've downloaded, now hosting too & installed/updated on the hardware I have at present all seems to be working fine, checkout soundly. I do love however how the PowerPC RISC CPU is running at 666.666Mhz and maybe why hence the naming of the voltaire too :D

I'm still really interested in operating this IB switch since purchase even though I've ran in to some niggles, I have updated the links somewhat GridDirector_voltaire_4036 where you should be able to find drivers as I DL'd them and any other documents and stuff I enter in to the DIr over the next while :D
