Hello,

I have an X10SL7-F motherboard which has two PCIe slots,
  • 1 PCI-E 3.0 x8 (in x16)
  • 1 PCI-E 2.0 x4 (in x8)
I have two cards an LSI 9300-16i HBA and Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro. The LSI card is supposedly 'x8 lane, PCIe 3'. I looked at lspci details of this slot and it showed,
Code:
LnkCap: Port #0, Speed 8GT/s, Width x8, ASPM not supported
               ClockPM- Surprise- LLActRep- BwNot- ASPMOptComp+
LnkCtl: ASPM Disabled; RCB 64 bytes, Disabled- CommClk-
             ExtSynch- ClockPM- AutWidDis- BWInt- AutBWInt-
LnkSta: Speed 8GT/s, Width x8
TrErr- Train- SlotClk+ DLActive- BWMgmt- ABWMgmt-
DevCap2: Completion Timeout: Range BC, TimeoutDis+ NROPrPrP- LTR-
10BitTagComp- 10BitTagReq- OBFF Not Supported, ExtFmt- EETLPPrefix-
                 EmergencyPowerReduction Not Supported, EmergencyPowerReductionInit-
                 FRS- TPHComp- ExtTPHComp-
                AtomicOpsCap: 32bit- 64bit- 128bitCAS-
DevCtl2: Completion Timeout: 50us to 50ms, TimeoutDis- LTR- 10BitTagReq- OBFF Disabled,
                AtomicOpsCtl: ReqEn-
LnkCap2: Supported Link Speeds: 2.5-8GT/s, Crosslink- Retimer- 2Retimers- DRS-
LnkCtl2: Target Link Speed: 8GT/s, EnterCompliance- SpeedDis-
Transmit Margin: Normal Operating Range, EnterModifiedCompliance- ComplianceSOS-
                Compliance Preset/De-emphasis: -6dB de-emphasis, 0dB preshoot
LnkSta2: Current De-emphasis Level: -6dB, EqualizationComplete+ EqualizationPhase1+
                EqualizationPhase2- EqualizationPhase3- LinkEqualizationRequest-
                Retimer- 2Retimers- CrosslinkRes: unsupported
The LnkSta matches LnkCap which suggests i am getting the full speed. Is that true or should i swap the HBA and Mellanox cards?

Thanks

You have to be careful what you're looking at because the 9300-16i has 3 chips, 2x SAS3008 controllers + 1x PLX PCIe switch. The SAS3008 chips on the 9300-16i are not connected directly to your PCIe slot. They are connected to the PLX PCIe switch on the card. What you're looking at there might be (I don't actually see what command you are running, so I don't know which PCIe device you are displaying) the connection between the SAS3008 chip and the PLX switch. Check the PLX switch connection to the system too.
