Well I decided to go with separate JBOD and 1u small server. It seem to be cheaper that making custom made solution. I looked at super micro but its not much on sale and its a bit priceyThese aren't short dept and are proprietary, but I am curious about modifying them for specific boards, especially the Supermicro system unit. Right now 2 options - MD1420 or NatApp 224C. Still deciding, since I also want it to be quiet(or at least to have option to control fans) and also short depth. For now MD1420 seem to be a better option(although a bit more expensive)
I didnt find anything reasonably priced. There are backplane from supermicro for 24 U.2 nvme drive, but I haven't find rest of parts to create DIY solution. And also price would be around ~$1500-2000 too
Looks definitely interesting, but seem like just experiment option, not something we can buy
