I thought this was worth spreading the word about - 45 pounds sterling here in the UK (57 dollars/53 euros) from Amazon.
Uses an Intel 82599 chip. I fitted it in my Windows 7 x64 box, installed the ProWin legacy drivers and has worked like a charm since 22nd Jan. iperf3 reports 7.77Gb/s, between my 2 Linux boxes it was 9.40Gb/s. Linux boxes use Mellanox Connect X-2 adapters.

10Gtek is also selling a card based on Intel 82599 on Amazon, for 48 Euro (or less sometimes)

The downside of the X520 is power consumption and the need for cooling, aswell as their use of PCI-E 2.0.

If none of those are an issue for you, they could be a good buy. :)

And also the lack of ASPM support. Which is bugged and so disabled by Intel.
