Hello!

I found this old thread about the BPN-SAS3-846EL1-N8, and I'm very interested in purchasing one of those.

Does @SRussell or anyone else have any leads for where I might find someone who could sell me one of those?

Thanks!

If you're in the US you could try to contact wiredzone. They are usually in the top ten results when I google obscure supermicro product names :D

Thanks for the advice @i386!

Actually, I already have an order with WiredZone for a full chassis that includes BPN-SAS3-846EL1-N8, i.e. Supermicro CSE-846BE1C8-R1K23B4, and I was told by them that Supermicro doesn't have the chassis nor the backplane in stock.

They currently don't have any ETA for it, and I was told by a WiredZone representative on the phone that fulfilling orders for Supermicro chassis has been very challenging lately, with some customers still waiting after an order placed about 6 months ago.

Quick update for anyone who might be looking for a Supermicro 846 chassis containing this exact backplane, BPN-SAS3-846EL1-N8, such as CSE-846BE1C8-R1K23B4.

I found a reference for this exact chassis on smicro.eu, and inquired about it. It looks like smicro.eu is closely linked with ANAFRA s.r.o., because I was very quickly contacted by their US Country manager, Nicolas Žitník. I was able to purchase this very hard to find chassis from ANAFRA, and I can't say enough good things about the great customer service I got from Nicolas.

If you're looking for this kind of hard to find chassis, I highly recommend checking out ANAFRA.

It makes no sense as to why they wouldn't sell the part. What if someone has the server/chassis with that part, it breaks, and they need a replacement?

You call support of the company you purchased your solution from and go through their support system and get it replaced by a qualified engineer. Of course you would have a service agreement with said company. Of course you would never let a support contract lapse and be running your production environment on end of support hardware.

Don't have a support contract for your enterprise hardware? That's terrible to hear but we all understand mistakes happen. Sales will be in touch to assist you with your emergency so you can purchase a new solution to get your production system up and running as soon as possible. This will of course require a custom scope of work but at this point money is no object to ensure you get production environment back online!

That's just a very weird spiel. Why would I have a support contract for my personal server? Just very weird.

Sorry I can rephrase.

You are not the target audience for this hardware. These companies do not care about supporting your needs.

It was just sarcasm to point out that we are just playing with company eWaste. We may as well be garbage goblins to these companies.

Not sorry, I can parse phrases just fine. Any time I've contacted their support, they've given just perfect effort into helping me. Probably because I bought their hardware. If what you said was true, they wouldn't have an e-store, nor would they quote directly. They'd be a distributor-only type of sales model. You seem to be thinking of Dell, HP, IBM, etc.

Every one of these companies has an e-store though? Doesn't mean you can just buy any part you want from them though.

When I contacted SuperMicro for a quote on chassis prices they referred me to a partner. They've never given me a quote directly for any of their "building block" products. Always referred to another company who provided a quote. Has your experience been different?

SM support? I've called them- you're right they will go out of their way to help you. However the level of competency of this free support is very low. When I was asked for help to find a part # they did not have a clue. "too old sorry" was the best I got. "we'll look into it and get back to you" - never did get that follow up 6 months later...

Better than other? Not too sure honestly. I've heard tales that say you'd get the same level of support from Dell for example.

Well I guess my shitty joking spiel didn't come off well. Happens.

Interested in one of my servers..for those who bought the backplane, does it come with its metal support?
