Hi Everyone,
Long time lurker, very occasional poster , I have a bunch of questions, I have looked for the answers but can't seem to find them.
Pretense:
So I was browsing ebay from some hot deal and up pops a supermicro fat twin, digging a little deep there are some ranging from $99 no proc, ram, or trays to $249, 2 cpu's, 16gb (4x4gb), 24 trays:
$249 - SuperMicro Storage Server 24 Bay 2026TT-DLRF 2x X8DTT-HEF+ E5620 CSE-217 +Trays | eBay
$195 - SuperMicro Storage Server 24 Bay 2026TT-DLRF 2x X8DTT-HEF+ CSE-217 + 15x Trays
$159 - SuperMicro Storage Server 24Bay 2026TT-DLRF 2x X8DTT-HEF+ 2xE5620 CSE-217 +Trays | eBay
$99 - SuperMicro Storage Server 24 Bay 2026TT-DLRF 2x X8DTT-HEF+ SATA SAS SSD CSE-217 | eBay
Now... I know what you are all thinking, why buy this "old crap"... well I don't have heaps of money, and I'm from Australia so most of this stuff costs 5x here if you can actually find it. A R710 will run you at least A$500 with 2x5640 and 24G ram, then there is shipping.
So sorry for such a large intro. Questions:
Please tell me i'm stupid... Happy to hear other options if i'm looking in the wrong direction. Would like to keep it under US$600, that chassis is $295 shipped to AU (ebay rate)... so not a lot left over. Obviously more will be needed for the ram/proc upgrade when that is required later.
Cheers,
Ryan

So sorry for such a large intro. Questions:
- Can the X8 board be upgraded to X9/10 board? With a new sled or just m/board. ie is the backplane for the sled the same over board generations.
- Can the PWS-1K41P-1R be swapped out for other (ie SQ psu's)? Looking at the psu matrix on this page: Super Micro Computer, Inc. - Support | Power Supply Matrix, says it has "Backplanes (gold finger)", so any PSU that has backplanes (gold finger) can be substituted?
- Would you guys recommend getting the more expensive "deal" or buy some trays separately?
