We're using an RD650 here and I've had great expericne with the D30 and C30 model workstations they're fantastic monsters although i wish they were a little cheaper used so i could have bought one instead of my T7500(not that dell precisions are horrible but...)

oh and I use a M82 desktop as a hyper-v host at home with a 3770 and 32gb of ram i haven't seen any issues with it at all(it was cheap on ebay about 300)

What do you guys think of lenovo products?

I've almost exclusively dealt with thinkpads, and they have GREAT support... I'm concerned I've had to call it so many times....
I don't think much of them... but I work for a competitor so...

That said, that server price is about $50 over the cpu tray cost.
Worst case you could part it out for a profit.
Resell with lesser cpu...

if its $50 of cpu tray cost...

how much is the chipset?

does not leave much to purchase other parts... much less quality components
v3 is old with v4 out and v5 on the verge of release...
Also lenovo is probably not paying tray price...

He's saying tray cost is $235

So you could sell it for 100-150$ and put in a different CPU (HT, EtC) and have a compelte mini-system for cheap.

The motehrboard, etc, aren't worth mcuh but lenova, hp, etc, aren't paying OEM LiST I'm sure.

keep in mind just because we're seeing it for that on ebay doesn't mean that's what it was designed to retail for, it looks like there's a 600ish list price so that is what the oem wanted to sell the parts at, odd are this is backstock being cleared out and they may be taking a (small) lost or barely breaking even on it.

It certainly isn't a bad deal for SOHO applications

Price vs profit is a tricky subject.

I have a Dell PowerEdge T20 with 3.5" 1TB SATA HDD, 4GB DIMM, Xeon E3-1225 v3 3.2GHz 4C 84W CPU, DVD+/-RW Drive
sitting next to me that I paid $240 shipped. The parts cost more than the machine as a whole unit.

Quality is just as good as the machine that list retail over $600

I have two of these TS140 Xeon based systems, I think they are an excellent basic system. The PSU is even appropriately sized to allow it to run in an efficient range for my requirements (appropriately small :0 )
They can be picky on RAM I read, but I had no issue with the Lenovo 4x8 ECC or the kinston desktop grade 4x8 non ECC
quiet and stable, no concerns on having to run Lenovo branded ram and HDD like HP.
NIC is not VMware certified/included, but well documented way of loading the nic driver exist.
only 5 SATA ports, and you have to shove disks all over the place in the case ....
power consumption was very low, but I can't recall exactly ... 30-40W idle?

Just a quick note... if your memory is not HP certified it won't not work... it just won't work at higher frequencies when used at 2 dimms per channel or higher... Or to rephrase will perform like a whitebox rather than faster.
Same with hard drives... won't be worse than a whitebox, just might not be better.
