Do you use write cache devices?
Column size?
Allocation size?
Filesystem?
Chunk size?
And yeah, I was disappointed too years ago when I was evaluating storage spaces. The lousy performance and limited expansion possibility are the reason why I still have to rely on hardware raid for the windows boxes ._.

Try following Storage Spaces and Slow Parity Performance - Storage Spaces War Stories.
Storage Spaces with parity, very slow writes. Solved! is less helpful but talks about the same thing.
