I got the same $128 counter on a $115 offer. A little too expensive for me for a Sandforce based controller at this point.

And, TECHNICALLY, without PLP you "could go wrong" in a vey very bad way, :D:D

How do these stack up next to the s3500 drives as OS drives for my san and backup server?

ARK | Intel® SSD 520 Series (480GB, 2.5in SATA 6Gb/s, 25nm, MLC)

vs

ARK | Intel® SSD DC S3500 Series (480GB, 2.5in SATA 6Gb/s, 20nm, MLC)

S3500 has PLP and other protection, and is faster... I'd go for S3500 for storage if you need, for an OS well that just depends what else/what the OS does IMHO. I like the 710 for a cheap OS drive with high endurance. It's likely slower than the S3500 though, but for "OS ONLY" works fine :) other good OS drive is the 100gb S3700 they go for $75 to $125 on ebay jsut gotta keep an eye out... still can't match the price.... <$50 for a NEW 710 :)

I can't afford bulk solid state storage in the capacities I want so they're just boot drives. Literally the only thing the os will be doing is sitting there idle with an active iscsi target to connect to.
