Intel 2U E5-2600 servers from a favorite seller

My rack is full now so I figured I would pass along some deals I found this morning:
#1 - Intel 2U - Quad LAN - Intel R2308GZ4GC Server System 2U Rack, Socket R, 750W V2 Series Customer Return

#2 - Intel 2U - Quad LAN and LSI SAS - Intel R2312GZ4GCSAS Server System 2U Rack Socket R 750W Tested Customer Return

They're both around $1000 but the seller is usually good on dealing when I have bought them before.

I really like the Intel 2Us because they have huge risers that let you add tons of cards. It'd be good if you wanted to use like Fusion-io cheap cards.

They're a bit more expensive than the Supermicro ones but they're high quality servers. You can even eek out two OS boot drives on the fan shroud

Intel 2U - Quad LAN Intel R2312GZ4GC is my favorite 2U system currently.

After flashing bios to the latest firmware, it went from jet engine to whisper quiet. I am sitting 4 feet from it.
Got a Intel R2312 earlier this year for $275 + $50 shipping.

The same month that I brought my Intel R2312, another Ebay seller had 2 Intel R2308 for $350 each BO.
If I had known that the Intel R2308 or R2312 are perfect for home lab, I would have purchased the two Intel R2308 as well.

The 2308 is nice, just wish it had 12x3.5 instead of only 8. Obviously that's what the 2312 is for :) but still.

I use two of the Intel 2U's including one 2.5" WT version that I added 4x NVMe drives to. I do really like them as well.

Marsh did you have to set a particular power profile / settings to get the system to quiet down? My 4U screams like a banshee. S2400GP4 in a P4308XXMHJC. Will have to check BIOS version when I get home.

Power profile: I think I set it to be acoustic friendly.
The fans would ramp up when I boot lots of VM ,then back to whisper quiet.
This server is meant for "thinking while learning" purpose, it would not see continuous heavy load.

For heavy load, I would use other screaming 1u and 2u servers that are located in another of the house.

i second that actually it is Patrick's/STH fault i had to get the WT server. I also echo that that they are great sellers.

a side note. I did try the NVMe riser for the 4x cage on multiple different servers (intel GZ and dell 720) and it did not work.

the A2U44X25NVMEDK kit had all that was needed. only works on the WT series (based on my limited testing). I did not try to boot to the drives and I dont "think" there is a raid option

-- edit. even though it looks like the NVMe drives should be in the center of the cage, as that is where the connectors are. it is actually the 1st four slots.

No problem getting to fit. pricing was around $500

It is that kit. Comes with everything required (except the drive).

Total downtime to do the install (and I did use the middle section for it) was ~8 minutes but I was also pulling out Fusion-io cards and adding slot based NVMe cards as well.

OK it took a bit longer actually because I forgot to connect the 4-pin power cable. Had to drive back the next day but everything works well now.

I canceled my order for the R2308GZ4GC as I was more interested in the 12 bay one, didn't realize it was 8 bay til I looked at the specs, also didn't recognize that it is inherently specified in the chassis model itself. Anyway, I expect them to list it again shortly, just a heads up for anyone.

I cant believe he accepted that low. I shrugged it off completely simply because the asking price was so high.
