either disable the cache or run the tests again with a far larger dataset. 1GB cache - 10gb dataset would have 1GB advantage, yeah?

Thanks in advance!

Is there anyway to flash Intel RS25DB080 to 9270-8i? I've got an Intel RS25DB080 which I'm pretty sure is LSI 9270-8i rebranded. As Mobilenvidia pointed out Megarec doesn't seem to recognize SAS2208 chips.

Megarec doesn't see the SAS2208 controllers, so you can't get or flash the SBR's to cross flash.

BUT you can happily flash the LSI9270 FW to the Intel controller, i have flashed it to the M5016
The card will still show as Intel, but have latest FW.

I'll be able to do some more testing once I get the LSI9266

ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA controller firmware update v23.12.0-0011

ServeRAID m5016 SAS/SATA Controller Firmware Update for Windows

Adapters Supported: ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA Controller for IBM System x (90Y4304)

NOTE TO SERVICE - Reference RETAIN #N/A

Version 23.12.0-0011 - Suggested
-------------------
Enhancement(s):
- Changed BIOS check to determine if running in HAMR, in order to ensure nothing
gets broken when user has an iButton which is not programmed.
- Changed controller status for safe mode to show controller status as safe mode
and disable debug message logging in serial port.

Fix(es):
- Fixed an issue where HII hangs when trying to enter configuration
management while in safe mode. Changed the safe mode warning message as below:
"Controller is running in safe mode. Safe mode is used for diagnostic purposes
only. Limited operations such as Configuration Preview, Clear Configuration
and View/Change Controller Properties are allowed in this mode. Other
operations such as Create Configuration, Import and Clear Foreign
Configurations are not allowed. To exit safe mode, correct the fault, and
reboot your computer."
- Fixed an issue where having more than three adapters results in a
calculation error for the offset to store physical disk info for fourth adapter,
due to BIOS not clearing upper byte of AX (that is AH which is containing
some non zero value).
- Fixed an issue where the Wrong spanned drive group size is displayed
by WebBIOS (Ctrl-H).

no fixes that stop the random resets with samsung 840pro that lead to perfectly fine drives dropping out of raid?

Well the SM843 works fine and was not pulled from their 'list' so I'd say yeah.

Takes two to tango.

I'll probably move to the cheaper HP SmartArray P420 with smartcache as it is pci-e 3.0 and has a supercap for less money than a used LSI 9261 off ebay

Are there any M5016 (or cross flashed equivalents) firmware versions that support the powersave feature ?

Am I correct in assuming that RAID6 drive configurations are not portable across the SAS2208 (M5016) and SAS2108 (M5014 with advanced feature key) controllers ?

Powersave = no, Dell FW can but xflashing to Dell FW is a hit/miss affair

RAID6 array can be swapped to and fro between LSI controllers that support RAID6
I took my RAID6 from LSI9261 to LSI9266 to IBM M5016
