Hi Folks,
I just bought a MicroServer to build my home server. This version came with a processor Pentium Gold G6405 with LGA1200 socket.
I read some threads (for other microserver models) that they does not support i5 processor.
Does anyone knows if is possible to upgrade the processor to a Core i5 11400 or 10400 in this specific version (Gen10+ v2)?
The costs of Xeon processors where I live is really high.
Thanks

I was fooled by chatgpt :D

So I will keep the Pentium Gold and use it only for TrueNAS until I find a good deal on a Xeon chip. It maybe could handle most of my actual stack with Pentium chip (wireguard, pihole, syncthing, homeassistant, etc) via proxmox, but I also want an emby server and a Windows VM, I'm not confident the Pentium chip is good enough for it.

how much would/could you spend ?
I can find a used Core i5 11400 chip for around $120, which is what I was planning to spend. The cheapest Xeon E-2314 I found here in Brazil was $430, which is the same amount I spent on the entire mint condition used MicroServer.

I searched GeekBench for motherboards using the same chipset as the MicroServer (Intel C252) and found some interesting results with Core i3 and i7 processors.

Therefore, I decided to test a Core i3 10105 (65W), and it appears to be working fine. While I'm not sure if I might encounter issues in the long term, everything is functioning correctly for now.

Here are the results with the i3 processor: HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v2 - Geekbench

For comparison, here are the results with a Pentium Gold processor: HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v2 - Geekbench

Don't want hijack this thread, but the subject fit my question. So trying here.
Possible to have an Microserver gen10 plus v2 accommodate a Xeon E-2378. What I've read and understood it looks like it, or?
If not anyone know a good wattage performance alternative. Need some "punch" in a Microsserver :) ?

The choice of CPU (Central Processing Unit) has a direct impact on server performance. To provide sufficient computing power for almost every small business application, the HPE ProLiant MicroServer Generation 10 Plus v2 supports different processor configurations. In addition to the Intel CPUs of the Xeon E-2300 series, tenth-generation Pentium G processors are used in the LGA 1200 (Land Grid Array) socket for lower requirements.

Thank you very much! So, the E-2378 looks like it's the way to go.

Also popping in this memory: 2x KTH-PL426/32G, should work?
KTH-PL426/32G: Kingston HP KTH-PL426/32G 32GB DDR4 2666MT/s ECC Registered Memory RAM DIMM | KINGSTONMEMORYSHOP UK

Going for mirrored SATA SSD for data and M.2 boot. 2 machines for redundancy.

Here my shopping list (prices in SEK).

Good catch, my bad.
This should be right, just different chips. Any to prefer? Micron or Hynix.

YES! ;)

I haven't pulled the trigger yet... The last hurdle was the memory. The above will work but was thinking about the specifications on the v2. Was tricked by the memory which comes with the Pentium version, it has slower mem.

The quickspec on "HPE ProLiant MicroServer Gen10 Plus v2" says:
HPE Memory
Unbuffered with ECC DIMMs (UDIMMs)
HPE 16GB (1x16GB) Single Rank x8 DDR4-3200 CAS-22-22-22 Unbuffered Standard Memory Kit P43019-B21
HPE 32GB (1x32GB) Dual Rank x8 DDR4-3200 CAS-22-22-22 Unbuffered Standard Memory Kit P43022-B21

So, hunting down generic memory at kingston give me this:
KSM32ED8/32HC, "Kingston KSM32ED8/32HC 32GB DDR4 3200MT/s ECC Unbuffered RAM Memory DIMM"
(Kingston KSM32ED8/32HC 32GB DDR4 3200MT/s ECC Unbuffered RAM Memory DIMM | KINGSTONMEMORYSHOP UK)
So, last x-check here with you guys. Right mem?

Building a "Frankenstein" here...
