Hi,

does anyone know if in a HPE DL380 Gen10 with U.2 NVMe bay there are restrictions on the NVMe storage (brand, type, HP firmware)?
Can I use i.e Micron 7450 Pro/Max; Samsung PM983; Kingston DC, Intel P series?

Will a U.3 unit be compatible even in a U.2 slot?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I am running Samsung pm983a on DL380 Gen10 without any issues. Another Samsung via a $10 PCIe adaptor (wouldn't say contriller, there are just wires on a PCB) as a boot drive. Works flawlessly, no BIOS tweaking or settings needed.

Do you run 2 NVMe with 2 PCIe adapters? How is the first one connected if not please?
I use only one M.2 NVMe as a boot drive, specifically using this adaptor. It's a x4 and inserted into a x8 slot, and as primitive as it can be, just wires from the drive to the slot. I didn't test two drives. Plus, I have a couple U.2 NVMe's connected to the HPE NVMe riser. I have a server for a year in prod, second like this to be deployed and no issues so far.

My next challenge is combining an 8 SFF NVMe + boot NVMe with the midplane 4 LFF cage filled with 24 TB SATA drives.

Thank you, could you please help me understand if you're using 826689-B21? Can you confirm that I wouldn't be able to use my own M.2 NVMe like pm983a 22110 with that kind of riser?

Well this PN is the 8 SFF NVMe cage. You can plug in U.2 drives, not M.2.
