Greetings

I bought an old HP Procurve network rack for almost nothing from a local OOB sale. The problem is the posts have round holes and a weird non standard profile and almost nothing fits. Rails, shelves, all have problems.

Only stuff that screws in from the front can be fixed to the rack with any security, so only light items like switches and routers.

Anyone seen this type of rack before? Suggestions on how to mount e.g. a heavy server?

Oh no - sadly yes, and they are super painful to deal with.
We found that we had to use shelves to mount everything because no normal rails worked and had problems unless the rails were really old and large for 4u+ servers not enough of the holes lined up on the vertical in the rack and the rails to attach properly.

It was legacy stuff we acquired from somewhere along the line and just sat sad in the corner of our cage in a colo with the wonky equipment in it that didn't fit nice elsewhere (old desktops and custom hardware, KVM's etc).

I would look to see if the vertical rails with the round holes can be detached from the rest of the rack somehow and possibly replaced. you can get vertical rails that is just the L-channel with the typical square holes on one face and normal hole on the other face to attach to a custom cabinet . May be easier/cheaper to go that route if it is an option.
