HAMR Milestone: Seagate Achieves 16TB Capacity on Internal HAMR Test Units | Seagate Blog

Achieving another major milestone toward volume shipments of its pioneering HAMR (heat-assisted magnetic recording) technology, Seagate announced it has used its advanced HAMR technology to build and test the world’s first formatted and fully functioning 16TB enterprise hard drive platform in a standard 3.5-inch form factor — the highest capacity hard drives ever produced. Seagate is on track to grow beyond 20TB per drive in calendar 2020.

Hopefully they worked on improving reliability also.
I recently got lucky on one of the 4tB NAS drives. It didnt even have much use. Failed just days before the warranty expired.

And i found this on The Register:

It will be followed by a multi-actuator HAMR drive with 20+TB capacity in 2020, followed in turn by 30+TB drives in 2021/2022 and 40+TB around 2023.

Single-actuator, and therefore slower, HAMR drives will be introduced with a 20+TB model in 2020, a 30+TB drive in 2021/2022 and a 40+ TB one in 2022/2023.
That's from March
