Actually, I did get hynix ram, and it has been just fine. It was certified by supermicro, I think the ram I had before was just too slow

While having the same issue with Micron/SK Hynix & Samsung I figured it's not about 2133, 2400 and/or 2666Mhz or the vendor. My SM boards just do not like 4DRx4 ram. Every 2Rx4 ram, no matter of the vendor and/or frequency just works fine. So don't let someone mislead you that EPYC's do not work with 2133Mhz. They work perfectly fine. My H11SSL-i and H12SSL-i just don't like 4DRx4 while my Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 just doesn't care as long as I use max 8 sticks only. So it has something to do with the 4DRx4 typology.

I am also guessing its a LRDIMM issue - none the two SM boards support LRDIMM - and that memory stick is most likely LRDIMM - and the Gigabyte board support LRDIMM.

And its not unusual for boards to not behave when mixing RDIMM with LRDIMM - none of my supermicro boards could run with a mix - and my dell servers the same.

According to the H12SSL manual it does support LRDIMM

I didn't have luck with Samsung LRDIMMs but regular slow Hynix RDIMMs work just fine. So I'd wager it's not Hynix, but LRDIMMs / 4 rank modules in general

What didn't work:
M386A4K40BB0 2400 32 GB LRDIMM

What works (currently in use, mixed 6 Hynix 2 Micron setup)
HMA42GR7MFR4N 2133 16 GB RDIMM
36ASF2G72PZ 2133 16 GB RDIMM

...and Milan does not like Hynix LRDIMM.
Does this still stand true today, I ask as I have purchased 2nd hand Super micro Modules and so far barring one faulty - all good, I also however have purchased ATECH 64GB modules which are SK Hynix, if it is the case that they wont like my 7C13 and 7313P I still have time to send them back for a refund if I act soon. On the packs they are listed as DDR4-3200 2Rx4 1.2v ECC RDIMM

unknown but many LRDIMM involved in RAM problems, depends on the motherboards vendor too.

DDR4-3200 2Rx4 is not LRDIMM.
LRDIMM have extra data buffer chips(need extra penalty clocks)

Supermicro H12SSL-i with Milan based Epyc
HMAA8GR7CJR4N-XN

is the part number
