Just as a reference for those who want a comparison, my D-1537 can do 9 simultaneous transcodes (8 live, 1 optimized version during the test). Trying to add a 10th just wouldn't start.

I am sure the 8 cores helps a lot there over the 4 cores of the i7 & 1518. You hit a wall with low core counts.

It also helps if the transcodes are at a lower rate (IE...720p instead of 1080/4K) than the source file.

That is a solid deal!

Shameless plug if someone is looking for more information: Supermicro X10SDV-4C-TLN4F Review - Xeon D-1518 mITX
Hello Patrick, I saw this article and in the comments section someone mentioned that XEON D doesn't have the Intel Quick Assist Technology support and the other Atom model (Supermicro A1SRI-2758F-B) seems to be better. My question would be:

1) how important is the quick assist technology support? In what situation is this needed?

2) is Supermicro A1SRI-2758F-B still be a good choice for PFsense router after one year's time?

Thank you!
