Never used the fan. Only had ssds in it when it was installed. I'm assuming it is as loud as most other 40mm fans. In the other rack like this that I am currently using, it has 2 ssds and 2 wd red 1tb 2.5 inch drives - still do not use the fan and have no thermal issues.
