Decided to downgrade and put 2 large hard drives in my HTPC rather than have this thing running all the time. Works great! Only issue is that the last drive carrier doesn't quite want to snap closed all the way.

Synology DS1812+ - $380 shipped to the continental US
7x 3TB WD Red drives - $40 shipped each, $260 shipped for all 7
- some may still have a little warranty left but assume very little warranty remains on any of them

Buy everything together for $550 shipped *PRICE DROP!*

That's quite tempting. What about the last carrier ? Is it broken ? Replacable ?

Don't know what's wrong with it. Just doesn't latch completely.

Looks like a replacement is pretty cheap. It uses the D5 style tray.

Looks like a good deal.

Synology has great software for those who are afraid of tweaking software

This is a well known issue on DS1812’s that is easily fixed by locking the broken tray with the included key.
I checked tray prices and they are overpriced.
