Is your Samsung RAM from Cisco servers? I'm in the market for 128GB Registered for my old c240-m3: UCS-MR-1X162RY-A 16 GB DDR3-1600-MHz RDIMM/PC3-12800/2R/x4/1.35v

Just scored it on CL, but worried I won't properly match hardware, but especially memory. My apologies in advance, just trying to get my little single node, all in one going to learn on.

So much to learn. Thanks for your patience, sir.

Actually, can we maybe discuss the 8th sticks, currently I'm running 8 x 8gb listed below. 17 more would be perfect... One spare.

Hi Harry,

These did not come out of Cisco servers but I am familiar with the C240 M3 and they are compatible with this server. The main things to consider are the mixing of types (ie avoid mixing rdimms vs lrdimms vs udimms) and speeds (can be mixed, but all dimms will run at the speed of the slowest installed dimm). Also, ensure that the dimms are matched across each cpu channel (ie cpu1 dimm1 must match cpu2 dimm1). Best to check here:
Cisco UCS C240 M3 Server Installation and Service Guide - Maintaining the Server [Cisco UCS C240 M3 Rack Server]

If you already have 8GB 1600Mhz dimms and if speed is important then stick with these.
However, if you need the extra capacity then you can certainly use the 16GB 1333MHz dimms as long as you follow the correct placement procedure, except the speed of your existing 8GB dimms will drop to 1333MHz ..... which might not be noticible depending on your application.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the incredibly thorough response, sir. I've been attempting to reference the page you provided when selecting potential hardware upgrades. This is merely a homelab environment, but i'd prefer to at least try to remain consistent.

If these are still available, can we discuss your: 8GB 1600MHz dimms.....
17 X Samsung M393B1K70DH0-CK0 8GB PC3 12800R - $340 plus shipping

Do you accept cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin or Ethereum) per chance?

Yes, the 17 X Samsung M393B1K70DH0-CK0 8GB PC3 12800R - $340 plus shipping are still available.
Sorry, I do not deal with those currencies; PayPal is my preferred method of payment.

If you’re still interested send me a PM with your zip code and I’ll let you know the shipping cost.

Ah, thanks for pointing that out manfri.
That is what’s printed on the dimms but I couldn’t find a reference to Q5 either.
Both dimms are of the same type and are interchangeable; the difference being the A die and the B die as designated by the M393B2G70AH0 and M393B2G70BH0 codes.

Do your shipping prices to US vary much with RAM qty? Just thinking it may be best to wait until I can order at least 8. Thanks.

Thanks. I will wait a bit until I can get 8 or more. Need to get a few other components first.

I'll take 8 of the 16 GB sticks (40 * 8 = $320).

What's the practical difference between the two variants? Everything I can find about them seems to have them basically being identical. Never mind, I saw your post about them being interchangeable.

You guys have come to the right place. Purchase with confidence, the ONLY, and I mean only drawback is the extra ~24 hours shipping time to clear customs from Canada. @AdrianT is possibly the most professional person I've dealt with online. Ever.

To top if off, he even went the extra mile(s) to answer a few random questions I had. He's extremely knowledgeable and super friendly taboot. He's been an essential part of getting my homelab kicked up a notch and I'd purchase from him again in a heartbeat. Thanks, sir!
