I'm selling my barely used Supermicro server for $1400 plus shipping. All hardware has been tested and is working flawlessly. This server was previously used as a backup server for a GSP but was pulled after only a few months. The Windows Server OS license is not included so you will need to install your own Operating System. The specifications are listed below, please contact me if interested.

Supermicro SYS-6017R-NTF
  • Supermicro X9DRW-iF Mainboard

2x Intel Xeon E5-2630 v1
  • 2.3GHz (2.8GHz Turbo)
  • 12 Total Physical Cores, 24 Total Logical

2x HGST Ultrastar Enterprise Harddisk
  • 2TB each
  • 7200RPM
  • 64MB cache

32GB Kingston RAM
  • DDR3 1333
  • ECC

I think you might need to adjust your price a bit. 2011 hardware isn't worth that much anymore. You can pick up a similar Supermicro system off eBay for ~$500.

There may be similar servers on ebay, but current prices on NewEgg and other marketplaces still value the new hardware at around $1,900 and this server has had very little usage.

I agree with BlueFox on this. Even if it had very little usage it is still used.

E5-2630's go for around $25 each on eBay. If the ram is 4x 8GB sticks that is maybe $80. Used the disks are around $65ea You can buy a BNIB barebones 1u SM server for under $600.

In the end it is your hardware and your choice on price but FWIW, if you want it to sell you need to lower the price.

You should also mention if the rackmount hardware (rails etc) are included, if the PCIe riser is included and what slots it has free, and a zipcode if shipping isn't included so people can estimate that on their side. Pictures always help too as do references to other marketplaces / heatware for a new member registered this week.
I totally understand wanting to recoup more of the original cost but I would also suggest re-evaluating the price a bit.
For example, more memory, more cores, HW RAID/HBA, but no drives (which are << $100 each new anyway) for $650+$40 shipping Prebuild Supermicro Server X9DRI-LN4F 2x Xeon E5-2650 Eight Core 48GB LSi 9260 | eBay

Those are all valid points, I'll try to address as much as possible. I understand depreciation but at the same time this server is practically still new and the hardware, if purchased now, would still be around $1,900 (NewEgg, as of last month) new. The SuperMicro barebone itself still goes for $900+ by itself (SUPERMICRO SYS-6017R-NTF 1U Rackmount Server Barebone Dual LGA 2011 Intel C602 DDR3 1600/1333/1066/800 - Newegg.com). All of the rails are included. The PCIe riser is included and both slots available. Only 4 of the 16 memory slots are utilized. I will try to add some pictures shortly, I don't have any taken at this time. The zipcode is 26554. If you have any further questions or suggestions please let me know.

I think you're still missing how server parts depreciate. Because there are no moving parts people don't really care how lightly used it was (it's pretty much impossible to verify usage anyways). Assuming there is no warranty period left on yours there is not going to be any measurable difference between your server and the ones on ebay with the same specs. The seller linked also has a very long history of selling and reasonably good reputation, so even at the same price many members here would probably rather buy from an established business than a brand new member of the forum.

Looking at current prices for new units doesn't really mean much anyways as NewEgg almost certainly isn't selling many/any of them other than as replacements for companies that want or need a warranty.

Like everyone else here has said you of course have the right to list whatever price you want, but we're all trying to save you some time and frustration.

you're pricing the server like a car -- this stuff is generations old so...and anything is only worth what someone will pay, so if ebay has it for X it goes for as much as X not more really

4 CPU generations old and 2 socket generations, sell of for what you can get it before it gets even harder, anybody that's got E5 v1 on roughly 4 year lease will be dumping this stuff.
Currently planning replacing E5 v2 (2690's) with scalable Xeon systems, that kind of stuff hitting the used market has to hurt costs of the older and low end stuff.
