ESXi 5.1 4TB Physical or virtual disks

Are there workarounds to having a 2TB VMDK limit in ESXi 5.1? For example, can I format my 4TB disk as 2, 2TB disks?

Upgrading to 5.5 would be the ideal solution but I cannot spare the time right now.

i upgraded my host to 5.5 in under 90 minutes,

downloading ESXi
reaserch
getting drivers for my 9690SA-8I
custom burn
upgraded
verifying that all my stuff migated correctly (this took half the time.

otherwise, pass through a 2nd HBA to the required VM

I would probably go to 5.5 also. Much easier.
