Hello everyone,

I have 2 epyc 7742 ES with a MZ72-HB0 3.0 motherboard and I am unable to get it to post. I realize after some research that I need to change the bios and downgrade the AGESA to below version 1.0.0.3.

My question is how do I do this? And do I have to do anything else to make this CPUs work on this board?

Additionally are there any pitfalls I need to lookout for so I don't ruin my motherboard or any components?

Also if someone wants to walk me through this I would be more then happy to pay them.

only required for real ES stepping A0. you have a 100-00000053-04, stepping B0 QS. this is same than production unit.

MZ72-HB0 3.0 is delivered with MIlan BIOS.
install correct BIOS for rome support ?

try only one CPU in first socket. if you have many GB RAM it take a minute to check, so wait longer.
what memory do you have ?
login to IPMI WebGUI and check the LOGs

I have 512gb of RDIMM memory.

Also what do you mean by:
"only required for real ES stepping A0. you have a 100-00000053-04, stepping B0 QS. this is same than production unit."

What does A0 and B0 mean? And what does stepping mean.

Thanks for your help!

A0/B0 is the stage of the silicon. A0 is early here, B0 is final.
you don't need special BIOS for B0 CPU.
i had a 100-000000054-04 running on a supermicro H12 with stock rome BIOS.

try only one CPU with one RDIMM, refer to the manual where to populate only one RDIMM
Your Power SUpply is a good one with two native EPS 8pin connectors ?

the 2S1404E2VJUG5 (7742 ES) needs early AGESA.
the 100-000000053-04 (7742 ES/QS) is like the retail one.

Gotta love that 5 minutes of hoping it works when I click the power for the first time on an EPYC 7000 system.

BTW, The tyan board posts in like 5 seconds instead of 5 minutes. it still takes forever to initialize on first post, but at least the display lights up and tells you what it is doing. Was so nice first time I saw it.

yeah, S8253

it doesn't boot noticibly faster, but the screen is on telling you what it is doing with a few seconds, whereas first boot with SMC H12 board takes many minutes to post a picture to screen.
