Encrypted Volumes Passwords

I am not locked out, but I am unsure of the password I have written down and dont want to lock the volume to find out it is the wrong password. Is there a way to get the password when you have access to the encrypted volume?

The password is in RAM but the extracton is more a case for security agencies.
I would now backup all important data to an unencrypted filesystem.
