Do Gen1 Silver Scalable Xeons work with DDR4 2400 RAM?

Bit of an odd request, but has anyone tried running a Gen 1 Intel Scalable Silver Xeon with DDR4 2400 RAM before and had any luck?

I’ve got multiple Cisco 5108 chassis and multiple B200 M4 blades, and have the chance to grab a few C220 M5 rack servers for a fair price.

I’ve got over 1TB of Cisco 32GB DDR4 2400 sticks and was hoping by some miracle that it may work with the M5 (scalable) platform, as it would save me buying a tonne of RAM up front as well.

The silver scalables max out at DDR4 2400 so I was hoping that as long as my RAM could run at that speed then the sticks may work/be detected?

Anyone tried before?

Thanks!

I see no reason it won't work, but sometimes you get unlucky and the RAM is just incompatible, or the firmware on the server sucks and can't find your RAM.

you dont need luck. 2400Mt is not a problem if the CPU supports 2400, but god thanks JEDEC profiles the memory will run at 2133 if not.
have had running 2933Mt modules(at 2400) with a Silver 4110.
But If you buy single ranked 32GB Modules you get into trouble. skylake(1st Gen) supports up to 16GB ranks, cascade lake (2nd Gen) supports 32GB ranks.
I bet these Cisco 32GB modules are quad ranked, no problem then.

Thanks for the replies.

My current sticks are 2Rx4 ones.

Ive bought a C220 M5 and got a good price on 2 x Xeon 4210, so will see how it all goes when it turns up :)

Assuming it works and UCS manager detects it properly I’ll grab 2 more of the same setups.

Correct, I was looking at 4110 to start with but ended up being able to get a pair of 4210 for less than the cost of a single 4110… I guess the seller (server refurb place) is keen to get me to come back and buy the other servers/more CPUs??

If worse comes to worse and it all doesn’t work together properly than I can at least sell the bits off and break even.
