Hey there,

Was just wondering if anyone had any luck with ES / QS CPUs on the R740. I see these Platinum 8xxx CPUs going for low enough that I'm willing to explore what one would look like. For example: Intel Xeon Platinum P-8124 SR2YS 18-Core 3.0GHz 3.7 Turbo LGA-3647 CPU Processor | eBay

I'm upgrading from an R620 and an R720 to 2x R740s and wanted to know
1. if this is feasible,
2. if it's not crazy challenging (like having to rebuild a BIOS for example) - unless there's good documentation out there, and,
3. if it's generally acceptable for homelab use

Thank you very much for your insight!

Platinum P-8124 ( NOT Platinum 8124(M) ) is special,
stepping B1 is not supported by most motherboards without modding.
Gigabyte support them.
all QS are working because QS have same stepping than production units ( just ES bit is set to mark them as confidential )

Thank you for your reply. I don't care about that one in particular... I suppose I'm curious whether people have hands-on experience with ES/QS on the Dell Rx40 14th gen platform
